“When I learned about the LifeLine Support Program I jumped at the chance to sign up and be a part of that. I had met Katie Brown with LUNGevity a couple of years earlier and I attended some events with her- the Dallas Regional HOPE Summit and later the National HOPE Summit in Washington DC.
If you have never been to a LUNGevity HOPE Summit, I encourage you to go. At the HOPE Summit you learn about the disease and learn about the research that is happening. You get to interact with experts and ask them questions and you learn about all the support resources that LUNGevity provides to patients and their families. That’s how I learned about LifeLine Support Partners.
I’m so glad I went to meet so many people who were going through the same thing that I was dealing with. I’m still fighting my lung cancer and sometimes as survivors we ask ourselves “why are we still here?” My answer is God is not finished with me yet. I feel so blessed to be able to share my journey with others and spend as much time as needed on the phone to those who are scared and may call just to cry or vent their frustrations. It’s amazing how wonderful you feel when helping others.
I also started an in person support group in my church and I get and give support online.
I love being a part of LUNGevity. I’m able to stay connected with those I have met at the Dallas and Washington Summits. I can go on Facebook and see how everyone is doing and if I’m not feeling all that great and want to vent, everyone understands and responds.
